Episode 108: For Bernard Cribbins

It’s a very sad occasion, bringing the Type 40 panel together this time. The loss of a wonderful performer and warmest screen presence in the lives of generations of British viewers. Who’s work on Doctor Who in particular, has been enjoyed by people the world over…

On Thursday 28th July 2022, it was announced Bernard Cribbins OBE, had passed away at the age of 93. Bernard was a performer for over 70 of those years, in movies, TV and theatre. He’d seemingly worked with everybody during that time! For us he was both the brave young policeman Tom Campbell from the second Dalek movie in 1966 AND Donna’s Grandad and the Doctor’s friend Wilfred Mott.

Only weeks ago, Bernard was on location recording material for next year’s 60^th anniversary. His return had delighted us! Now we get together to humbly salute this superb actor whom everyone loved. For you – for us – and for him. Stream or download this latest edition of Type 40 here:

Nine seasons were made under enormous pressures, with only one constant presence other than a blue Police Box. And on this edition of Type 40 we look at the legacy of the shows producer, through that time: the late John Nathan-Turner.

Regular hosts Simon and Dan welcome back friend of the show, the writer Richard Molesworth. In the very week his latest work “The John Nathan-Turner Doctor Who Production Diary 1979-1990” is released. Richard had access to an unprecedented volume of information to complete his project.
